BMyTeam (www.bmyteam.com) wanted to stand out as a one-stop sports authority, providing European sports fans with real time sports news, social networking opportunities and unique jersey customization features that allow visitors to support their favorite teams and players like never before.
BMyTeam came up with an innovative concept to strengthen the emotional connection between fans and their favorite players by giving visitors the ability to be on their favorite players’ jersey. This included allowing the user to upload, manipulate and place a 3x3mm photo on a jersey in a specified area of the jersey number. Additionally, they wanted to create an opportunity for visitors to engage in social networking through a variety of social media tools, purchase customized player and team apparel, sign up for newsletters, and follow the latest sports news from multiple sources. Finally, the client wanted the ability to edit their own website content. This website would require highly customized web development in order to provide the advanced tools and functions necessary to incorporate these all of these components for a flawless, user-friendly visitor experience.
After a thorough discovery and planning process, Cynexis web design experts got to work on the website design by creating wireframes and mock-ups based on the color, image and layout preferences of the client. Once the wireframes were approved, our web development team began programming an open source application development framework using PHP, providing the client with Drupal content management system for the ability to edit their own website content. Using our vast experience in high-end, customized UI engineering, we connected with external databases through an application programming interface (API) to maintain a current list of teams and players through the use of Linux cron job.
The major challenge was to give users the ability to place their 3mm x 3mm image on a customized jersey in one of thousands of places on the jersey number, while providing options to upload, manipulate, and preview images with zoom features before purchasing. This was accomplished using JSON and JS libraries for image caching and script rendering, PHP libraries for image to PDF conversion, and additional libraries for cropping and zoom features. Our programmers managed two removable devices in the site; one for input, by using a web cam to take the user’s photo for uploading, and a second for output, by generating a shirt number in PDF format for printing.
The new BMyTeam website provides a dynamic, one-of-a-kind experience for fans. A clean design and intuitive navigation invites visitors to easily access the many features on the site. The advanced functions and intelligent user interface make creating a personalized jersey a logical and effortless process.
